The Tiny House Movement

There have been a number of articles promoting the tiny house lifestyle, and people all over the world are starting to take an interest in this new trend.  Technology and smart ideas have allowed people to live simple and fulfilling lives, under the cliché that less is more.

Technology is fuelling a revolution in small consumer technology, and everything from consumer white goods like washing machines to lifestyle technology like speakers are getting smaller and more efficient.

The average American house is around 2,600 square feet, and a typical tiny home usually comes in at around 100 to 400 square feet.  Some of them are on wheelable trailers, meaning that you can put them anywhere you choose, and others have permanent foundations.

One of the biggest attractions for consumers is the financial advantages that living in a tiny house comes with.  Most people spend around one third to one half of their income on their home payments.  With a tiny home, this is dramatically reduced, freeing up money for other things in life.

Here some fun facts on tiny homes that may just help change your mind about them:

  1. 68% of people who own a tiny house have no mortgage at all
  2. The average cost of a tiny house if it is built by the owner is $23,000.
  3. 2 out of 5 tiny home owners are over 50
  4. 89% of tiny house owners have less debt than the average American
  5. 55% of tiny home owners are women

There are also the environmental benefits to tiny homeownership.  Utility bills are dramatically less than that of the average house, since tiny home owners use less energy to heat their property.  They will also use less overall water, and the construction process itself is very eco-friendly, with less materials and man house being used.
