Weekender

Howdy, everyone! How was your weekend? It’s been pretty rainy in L.A. but we still managed to get out and have some fun.

Last night we finally used our Groupon for Taste on Melrose. If you don’t already have a Groupon account, get on that! You get an amazing coupon offer sent to your inbox every day– usually about 50% off at a local restaurant, spa, gym, etc. It’s the perfect way to try new places and things in your neighborhood. Taste serves what they call “upscale comfort food”, and it was pretty amazing. We started with their famous white truffle and mushroom mac n’ cheese, which certainly lived up to the hype. Creamy and truffley and scrumptious. We followed that with a kobe beef burger and a prosciutto, fig, and gorgonzola pizzetta (delicious). Oh and we were lucky enough to snatch up the kitchen’s last chocolate brioche bread pudding (are you drooling yet?)

This morning we made our way over to the Pasadena City College Flea Market and scored the brass giraffe and quail family. The quails have already made themselves at home on the bookshelf in our bedroom. Not sure where the giraffe’s gonna go but we’ll find a good home for him. Sandwich Saturday turned into Sandwich Sunday this weekend, when we stopped by Roma Italian Deli in Pasadena. The owner, Ross, is a little old Italian man who is happy to make you a sandwich as long as you don’t give him any instructions. “I’ve been here 55 years,” he said. “I make you sandwich.” So he did. Just meat and cheese, sliced impossibly thin, drizzled with olive oil and wrapped up in some heavenly Italian bread. Delicious. I also picked up some canned Italian tomatoes (Cento) so I can make this sauce again.
