It’s All Down Hill

Have you seen this amazing video by DOCOMO for the Touch Wood SH-08C by Sharp? Its a commercial for a limited edition Japanese phone that will only have 15,000 units made from sustainably harvested cypress wood. This video features the amazing ingenuity of of the Japanese creative collective Drill, Inc. whose website is minimalist to say the least. I can’t even imagine the work that went into calculating all the cuts necessary to perform Bach’s Cantata 147, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring on a handmade marimba. Although, if I was Sharp, I’d be a little pissed. That little wooden bouncing ball totally stole the show. Props to all the crew for making a magical piece of art and the natural beauty of rural Japan.

Oh Portland

Gotta love Fred Armisen in Portlandia. However, I really think Portlandia is better suited for the web where it can be consumed in bite sized clips like this. The 30 minute “show” format just didn’t feel right to me, since you start getting saturated by previous skits and lose out on the funny of the “now”.

This had me laughing so hard yesterday at work. There were even some tears involved. My boss sent it to me in an email with the title “this is how I feel today.” (It was a crazy day). If your boss isn’t as cool as mine, I wouldn’t recommend watching this at your desk… but watch it when you get the chance because there’s nothing like a good mid-week laugh.
