Maybe I shouldn’t complain about my commute anymore. It seems L.A.’s got nothin’ on Beijing! A massive traffic jam on China’s Expressway 100 had cars backed up all the way to inner Mongolia. The jam started on August 14 because of an excess amount of cargo being trucked into Beijing, and the problem was exacerbated by a major road construction project that began a few days later. This is probably old news to anyone who watches any of the major news networks, but I was unaware of the situation until I heard about it on NPR this morning. Word on the street (no pun intended) is that the situation has greatly improved in the last 24 hours, but it could still take up to a week to get the flow of traffic back to normal.

Look at us! Such babies! I hope y’all don’t mind if I get a little mushy on you, but I just had to share this. When I was staying at my mom’s place in Denver this past weekend, I came across a bunch of old pictures of us… and our senior yearbook. Here’s what Curt wrote:

And I always put it off till the last minute, which makes me hate it even more because I end up feeling frazzled and inevitably leave something behind and Curt is such a good packer because his middle name is Efficiency and mine is not but I swear I’m getting better and one day I’ll be able to pack a week’s worth of stuff in a backpack ok not really that’s never going to happen who am I kidding…
BUT.
I am going to go see my brand new baby nephew a.k.a. chunky monkey/ goldfish/ little Phelps man (he has a swimmer’s chest) and I am so. freaking. excited.
Curt says it’s just my ovaries tingling. I had to promise him I would do my best not to catch baby fever while I’m there.
Ummm. I’ll try my hardest. But wish me luck.

You GUYS. Look at my little chunky monkey!!! This is my nephew and he was born yesterday morning. Nine pounds, one ounce. 21 inches long. I haven’t even met him yet but I love him sooooo much! Those CHEEKS, people!
My sister and her husband are so thrilled to finally welcome their miracle baby into the world. Heather was diagnosed with PCOS almost 10 years ago and she was told by several doctors that she probably wouldn’t be able to conceive. But Jonah is here and he’s healthy and he’s beautiful!
I’m going out to Denver next week to spend some time with them. Can’t wait to hold that precious little guy!

P.S. Speaking of babies, I am dying over these Naptime Adventures. So cute!!!

Well, today was the first official day of summer. Hooray! But you wanna know what’s really sad? We still haven’t been to the beach this year. We walked up and down Santa Monica pier yesterday, but that doesn’t really count. I want a full-fledged beach day, with sand in my toes yummy snacks and a good book.
We’re going out to Catalina this weekend so I can finish up my scuba certification. I’m pretty excited! I spent all day Saturday scuba diving in a swimming pool, which felt kind of silly and weird but it was so fun! Breathing under water is really cool.
Hope you’re all making fun plans to get out and enjoy the lovely summer weather!

So, ummm… yeah. I’m a terrible terrible blogger when I’m on vacation. Sorry about that.
Anyways, hello from the Mile High City! I’m here visiting the fam. Been here since Sunday and I’ve mostly been helping my sister get baby Jonah’s nursery ready (pictures coming… once Curt gets here with the Nikon). It’s been kind of insane and it will probably get even crazier when more people come into town on Friday and Saturday. Curt’s been keeping GBM afloat (quite nicely, I must say) but I guess I gotta be a little bit responsible and, you know, post something.
So, Bear Fashion it is! Allie Brosh of Hyperbole and a Half (which is hilarious; add it to your Reader NOW) has a weekly guest post over on The Gloss and this week’s musings were dedicated to helping grizzly bears avoid a visit from the fashion police. Bears who’ve packed on the pounds can benefit from opting for vertical stripes and avoiding thick fabrics like wool. Oh and “pale sage is a great color because it is complemented by the rich cranberry of salmon blood.” I don’t think I could have said it any better myself.
You can read the whole guest post here, and make sure you pay a visit to Hyperbole and a Half, too! Just read about the Sneaky Hate Spiral and you’ll be hooked. Thank you (again) to Corrie for sharing. She really gets our style. Like we were related or something.

It’s Jessica’s birthday today. There was a Tallest Man on Earth concert Friday. Osteria Mozza Saturday. Iron Man 2 today. Goodtimes. I look forward to celebrating many, many more birthdays with you babe.

Awesome cake pic from the infamous Cake Wrecks

Team Grizzly is hitting the road for a couple days… off to the desert to have a party in remembrance of Vada Mae. Not sure if we’ll manage to get any posts up while we’re out there but we guarantee there will be plenty of pictures to share upon our return.
Happy Weekend!
love,
Curt and Jess

Curt’s not feeling too well, and I don’t wanna get whatever he’s got, so we’re gonna call it a night and get some rest. But Volume 6 of our GBM Mixtapes series is cookin’ and it should be ready for you to devour sometime tomorrow.
Happy Friday!

Dear Bloggers with Absurdly Adorable Puppies,
Please just stop. This is torture. Especially when you also happen to have really rad fashion sense.
Sincerely,
Jessica
