Portland Whirlwind: The Ace!

PEOPLE. The Ace Hotel in Portland is rad. It was everything we hoped and dreamed it would be. It was so cool to come “home” to a place that kinda actually felt a lot like home… especially after trudging around in the rain every day. Check this place out!

Portland Whirlwind: The Intro

We’re back! And PDX did not disappoint. Despite some dreary weather, we had so much fun exploring and shopping and eating… mostly eating. There are plenty of posts to come, but here’s a little sneak peek for now… look at all those beautiful fall colors!

City of Roses

As I mentioned, I’m headed to Portland for work on Monday. Jess will be joining me on Wednesday and we’re staying until Saturday evening as a belated anniversary present. We need advanced recon. Here’s the Google map I’ve compiled so far. What else do we need to see!?! Jenn over at I Art U has hooked us up pretty nicely, but I want to hear from the rest of you lurkers, all 45 of you. Scout team GO! Breakfast, lunch and din din por favor.

Staying at the Ace, naturally.

Grizzly Eats: Neptune Oyster – Boston, MA

Hey-oh! I’m back. Hopefully we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled postings. I come bearing gifts from Boston, well kinda. So if any of you catch yourselves in Beantown you must check out Neptune Oyster. I’d recommend stopping by for lunch since the dinner crowd can get unwieldy as this place only sits about 40-50 people. Continue reading…

Comida de Baja: Cheripan

Alright kiddies, time to wrap up our Baja adventure. After a day full of street food, we thought we’d step it up a bit for dinner, so we dined at Cheripan before heading back over the border.

Comida de Baja: Wine Country

Well, we’re almost done recapping our Baja food adventure (if you missed the first few posts, they’re here, here, and here)… but we couldn’t leave out our tour of Baja’s wine country, a beautiful area nestled in Ensenada’s Valle de Guadalupe. Our Sunday afternoon adventure in wine country was the perfect complement to our fish taco breakfast (and fish taco lunch). There’s nothing like a little wine and cheese to bring up the class level after you’ve noshed on street food all day. Balance is the key, am I right?

Are You For Scuba?

So… I’ve been pretty quiet around here lately, sorry ’bout that. I’ve been “studying”–if you can call it that– for my scuba certification. It’s the first time in quite a while that I’ve had to do homework. I even have to take tests! But it’s pretty exciting… Curt’s been diving for like 8 years already and now I get to go with him! Fun times.

I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for the open water dive we’re doing in Catalina in a couple weeks…. brrrrrr. After that’s over with, tropical waters only! If you want to see some awesome pics from Curt’s previous dive trips, check out his Flickr stream.

Comida de Baja: Street Vendors

Slowly but surely, I’m going to get these posts out. Our third, fourth, and fifth stops on our whirlwind Mexican food adventure through Northern Baja were all about street vendors. Fish taco stand, ceviche stand, and more fish tacos. Locations and names escape me for this segment primarily because I was driven to each one of these spots and then handed delectable little treats accompanied by “try this.” Continue reading…

Comida de Baja: Mazanilla

Hey there party people. Sorry I’ve been laggin’ on this series, but work just got really crazy – so something’s got to give.

So to recap. Crazy Mexican food adventure a couple weeks back. First stop Tacos Salceados – upscale taco shop. Next stop, Mazanilla. Continue reading…

Comida de Baja: Tacos Salceados

So the entire reason we went to Mexico last weekend was to stuff our faces with as much amazing food as possible in about 24 hours. Check out stop number one on our adventure after the jump: Continue reading…
