Every sunday, Yoyogi Park, one of Tokyo’s largest parks, floods with people from all over the area hell bent on self expression. Teens and adults alike meet up with like minded counterculture enthusiasts to hang out and more importantly, show off. This greaser group and their toe tapping dance moves are rad. If I was to immerse in a subculture, rockabilly would be the way to go. You gotta love how the Japanese can so easily distill American culture, but still maintain their cultural penchant for process and systems.
Is it bad that I have a crush on a website? Saturdays NYC is an amazing surf boutique in downtown Manhattan “to suit a lifestyle occupied with surfing, living and working in New York City.” Granted, I’m a total poser. I haven’t touched a surfboard since I was a little kid, but the ocean still flows inside me. And now there’s an impeccably designed site pushing an incredible mix of stylish house brands and a tastefully curated mix of some of the best brands in the menswear game right now: Levis, Vans, Baxter, Gitman Brothers, Cosalots, Riviera Club, etc. Plus I think Saturdays NYC has one of the freshest logos around. Beautiful shoes and a beautiful video. I wish I could say the same for our fair city where these styling Esquivel Shoes are made. And they ain’t cheap kiddies.
Loving these vintage hats from Etsy shop Prance and Swagger (love that name, too!) They’re all under $50 so you really can’t go wrong… and wouldn’t that white one look so romantic with a simple black or navy dress? Kinda sailor-chic. I like.
Prance and Swagger is based in Portland… which happens to be where we’re going later this month!! Huzzah! If you’ve got any Portland suggestions, we’d love to hear ‘em.
It’s officially fall! The weather’s changing and even sunny L.A. is getting into it. It was downright chilly today! (Of course for me, anything below 70 degrees is cold…)
The crisp and slightly spicy fall air means I’ve got boots on the brain. Loooove me some boots. And thanks to a conveniently timed little work bonus, I might just invest in one of the lovely pairs above.
I’ve been on a quest to find an airy summer shoe that’s a little more dressed up than the trusty ol’ Rainbows (no, not Double Rainbows) and ever since I saw these, I knew I must have a pair. Sadly, the Ace Hotel x Arktip x Generic Surplus colabs only go up to a size 12 so no dice for me. Luckily, Generic Surplus knew they had an awesome thing going and they expanded the mesh design to other parts of their line – which includes the pimosol in a size 13. Wooooo. So I snagged a pair over on Moxsie earlier this week and oooo-weeee these babies are exactly what I need to stay cool this summer.
So I grew up with backpack envy. One of the byproducts of home schooling until high school is growing up with no real need for backpacks – or lunch boxes, the horror. I’ll let that sink in for a moment. Yes, home schooled, but we’ll leave that for another day. Anyway…these clean, casual bags by Herschel Supply Co. are quite the beez kneez. I wouldn’t mind bringin’ that “Zippo” duffle home with me today.
I’m really diggin’ Riviera Club’s new fall/winter lookbook. I love the eastcost vibe channeled into this Santa Barbara based menswear label’s upcoming line. It’s quite a departure from the beachy vibe of their spring/summer offering. Check out a few more snaps featuring this rag-tag group hoping for snow after the jump: Continue reading…
I read a really great article in the Wall Street Journal Magazine about CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler, the man turning J. Crew around. I love J. Crew’s aesthetic of both the men’s & women’s line and according to the article, Mickey has a lot to do with that. I was also really impressed with Tina Gaudoin’s writing style – which seamlessly blended the business stats and facts of J. Crew, the corporation, with a detailed look at the man behind the brand. Check it out!
Jessica and I suffer from hat envy. We both have heads too big to fit in any hat we find which results in us always looking like Magilla Gorilla. Boy it sure would be nice to rock one of these fine Italian beauties from Borsalino. These cats have been making hats since 1857 so they’re legit.
