Happy First Day of Spring!

Lítill terrariums are sooooo cool it makes my brain hurt. I mean look at them! It’s like your pen pal from Mars sent you a little slice of its alien planet. They ‘aint cheap, but they are custom made by photographer Lauren Coleman who works with a glass blower and her “cactus guy” to make you one wicked little desktop gem.
So if you haven’t already noticed, we here at GBM are kinda ga ga for cool house plants. And by “we” I think its just me – the Mrs. could go either way. These Sky Planters by kiwi designer Patrick Morris for his company Boskke are pretty impressive. Continue reading…
Oh snap! The Bear Cave be upgradin’!!!
We were lucky enough to receive a Woolly Pocket as a wedding gift last October and we finally got around to filling it up. I’ve been jonesin’ to do it for a long time, but Presidents Day was go time! Continue reading…
Ok, ok, I know it looks like Curt’s showing me up. Dang fool won’t stop posting something every five minutes. I’m doing wedding recaps over here so I’m busy, geez.
Anyway, how rad are these “Urb Gardens“!? As an apartment-dwelling foodie who LOVES cooking with fresh herbs, I gotta say I’m quite smitten with this idea.

Well Punxsutawney Phil may be predicting extra winter for the rest of the country, but Speedy De Tortuga (our no longer hibernating tortoise) begs to differ for SoCal. 80′s last weekend. Rain and sun this weekend. Spring is a-comin’. Woo! Cruised over to Plant Depot today for some house plants for the Woolly Pocket (stay tuned on that). The Nikon came along for the ride and you get to reap the benefits. I feel sorry for all of you with snow up to your hiney.
Made the monthly pilgrimage to the big blue box – IKEA. I’ve been eying some of their houseplants for for quite some time and Monday was the day we finally pulled the trigger. It was a little bit of a struggle getting the Ficus Lyrata home with four people in the car – which is how it ended up with the name “Frisky.”

Here at the Bear Cave (meaning our apartment… yeah, just roll with it), we love succulents. LOVE them. (See: My wedding bouquet. Actually, pretty much our whole wedding.)
So, I was kind of ridiculously excited to see this rad DIY-Vertical-Garden tutorial in Sunset Magazine. (Thanks Erin for the link!)
It actually seems like a fairly simple project. Check it out…
