Hey there lovely readers! So I bought Jess and I tickets to go see the amazing The xx at the Hollywood Paladium on Wednesday September 22 months ago. Now I have to go to Boston for work that whole week – so no mind blowingly beautiful British rockers for me

Jess isn’t able to find anyone that is available or would appreciate them enough to take with her so I’m begrudgingly trying to unload these tix off to someone that would appreciate them as much as we would.

Check out this sureal video by Australian recording artist Kimbra. I’m not quite sold on her music – its pretty much a mash-up of Imogen Heap, Quadron, and Bjork with a little Janelle Monáe sprinkled in. Regardless of whether she may or may not be some record company’s desperate attempt to ride the neo-soul renaissance we are in the midst of, her video is pretty captivating. Mad Men + little children = strangely interesting.

Remember how back in April we told you to Remember Darwin Deez? And then we put him on our required listening list? Well his song “Radar Detector” is featured in the latest Sobe commercial. Booyah! Grizzly Predictions FTW!

Brazilian singer/actor Seu Jorge has one of those voices that I’ll never get sick of hearing. It’s pure magic. I’ve been a fan ever since The Life Aquatic came out back in 2004 (Curt and I had just started dating and it was one of the first movies we saw together….awww). Check out both of these videos, featuring Seu Jorge in the signature Team Zissou beanie.

By the way, Seu Jorge has teamed up with Almaz* on a new album and so far I really like what I’m hearing. It’s a mix of Brazilian, American, and European songs, all fused together with samba rhythms and a whole lotta soul. It’s not due out until the 27th, but you can listen to a couple of the singles right here. While you’re waiting maybe you should watch The Life Aquatic again. I know I’m going to.

*I tried to do a little more research on Almaz and I came across www.almazband.com. Definitely NOT the same Almaz that Seu Jorge has teamed up with…. but worth a look if you could use a good laugh.

Sometimes you don’t need a huge budget or amazing editing for a sweet music video. Sometimes you just need a funkasaurus. And be sure to check out the new Black Keys album Brothers – good stuff.

Here are four albums you need to own. Each of these artists has a very signature sound that I’d venture to say no one else is making right now. These albums have either just been released or will be coming out very soon.

LCD Soundsystem – This is Happening. James Murphy and company have returned with their signature New York brand of dance music that falls wonderfully in line with past work without feeling re-hashed and overdone. It’s like buying a new pair of your favorite jeans.

Sleigh Bells – Treats. There not much out there right now that sounds like Sleigh Bells. The grinding overdriven guitar and heavy clipping juxtaposed with the Alexis Krauss’ sugary vocals makes this album one of my favorites of the year so far.

Tobbacco – Maniac Meat. Don’t let the title or album cover scare you off, this buzzy electronic music is hard to describe, but hey, Beck likes it enough to lend his vocals for two songs – so give it a try.

Flying Lotus – Cosmogramma. Not a lot hasn’t already been said about this chart toping, genre busting, album by LA’s own, Steven Ellison. It takes a little time to fully digest this album, but you’d be amazed at how well this album ages and pairs nicely with so many other sounds.

I plan on making a mid-year music wrap-up at the start of June so stay tuned. Is anyone else blown away that the year is almost half way over!?! OMG crazy.
