Check this out. These guys over in Venice Beach got a big ol’ van, tricked it out, and started inviting local bands to play in it. Thus, Jam in the Van was born. They’ve already had 20-ish different bands rock out in the van, some of which are pretty well known in the LA music scene, all in under four months! But our pal Johnny and his band The Muddy Reds had the distinct honor of playing the very first set in the van. They killed it (as always), and I thought y’all might enjoy hearing a couple songs from their set.

Also, if you’re interested, The Muddy Reds are playing with a few other bands at the Bootleg on Friday night. The Bootleg is a rad little venue (we saw Broken Bells there!) and there’s no better way to end the week than by dancing to some loud, fast rock n’ roll.

P.S. Check out The Muddy Reds Tumblr. It’s funny.

Through some random Craigslist stumbling, I ran across the real estate listing for this gorgeous revamped Echo Park cabin. Built in 1881, this 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath plus detached guest house is on the market for $720,000 – not cheap, but it does give me hope for finding a rad house someday since homeownership in LA has never looked very promising. Hey guys! It got quiet around here for a few days; sorry about that. Did you all have a good weekend? Ours was packed. It was really fun, but definitely not long enough. On Saturday, we got up bright and early to drive to Downey. I had to help out with a work event and Curt was sweet enough to let me drag him along. Did you guys know that the world’s oldest operating McDonald’s is in Downey? We dropped by to snap a few pics. It’s very interesting… there’s no drive thru, they serve a 75 cent hamburger, and they have a little gift shop/museum area. After that we drove up to Glendale to meet Buddy! He’s the French Bulldog we applied to adopt. Hopefully his “foster mom” liked us and he’ll be coming home with us soon! Fingers crossed! Also, our latest issue of Sunset had a little piece about cool things to do in Glendale… we really wanted to check out Snookie’s Cookies but they were already closed for the day! I guess we’ll just have to plan on revisiting Glendale another time. We finished the day with beers at Eagle Rock Brewery and some guilty-pleasure food at Dinah’s. On Sunday, we finally got around to doing some much-needed spring cleaning, followed by church, dinner with friends, and an almost-epic foosball game…
What did you do this weekend? We’d love to hear!

Hope you had a great weekend! Ours started off with a bang. We got a new apartment in the westside!!!! Woooooo! Posts to come. We had some amazing weather Saturday here in LA. Jess and I stopped by Randy’s to grab sweet treats to bring down to the fam in the OC. I also scored some a-mazing succulents at Costco last weekend and delivered them to my Mom. Along with the delivery I got to check in on the potted arrangements I put together before our wedding a few years back. I think I may end up taking these up to the new place. Sorry ma.

I know, I know. This post is waaay overdue. Sorry guys. February is the craziest month in my work year, and this apartment hunting process is… well, a process. But before too much time has passed, you should hear about our two Restaurant Week experiences. One great, one not great. Let’s start with the bad news first…

If you live in LA, you HAVE to get on this. Over 300 LA-area restaurants are participating in dineLA’s Restaurant Week, and that means you can eat at places like Bouchon, Spago, The Little Door, or even one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants… for dirt cheap. Each restaurant comes up with a special prix fixe menu for the event, ranging from $26-$44 per person. We’re sooo looking forward to dining at District on Sunset and The Bazaar by Jose Andres. Mussel Chowder and Crispy Pork Belly. Gooooood times.

We’re seeing Florence and the Machine tonight at the Wiltern. Exciting! Even if it’s full of tweens who only know about FATM because they saw Eat Pray Love, it’ll still be a good show.
The artwork accompanying today’s post is brought to you by A Lyric a Day… a wicked sweet Tumblr project. Check it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, kiddies!

Hey there lovely readers! So I bought Jess and I tickets to go see the amazing The xx at the Hollywood Paladium on Wednesday September 22 months ago. Now I have to go to Boston for work that whole week – so no mind blowingly beautiful British rockers for me
Jess isn’t able to find anyone that is available or would appreciate them enough to take with her so I’m begrudgingly trying to unload these tix off to someone that would appreciate them as much as we would.
$70 and they’re yours! 2 General Admission tickets for The xx on Wednesday September 22 at the Hollywood Palladium – which is a great venue IMO.

We hit up the Renegade Craft Fair last Saturday before finishing up our DIY wall unit. Peep some cool finds from a bunch of awesome sellers after the jump: Continue reading…

It’s 10:30 at night and it’s still HOT in L.A. Sleep-naked-no-covers-fans-blasting hot.
We have A/C. And it works. We’re just cheap. And maybe a little masochistic.
