So I’ve been thinking about the style direction I want to take for our home. There are a lot of great styles out there, but none of them really encapsulate the look and feel that best illustrates our personality and the things we love. So I’ve come up with the term Baja Modern. It’s an eclectic mix of mid century, surf culture, the desert, industrial chic, color, stripped down, and raw materials. So what do you think? That grizzly bear teepee was on my Etsy recommendations today and I instantly fell in love with it. I started browsing around Etsy and came up with this little inspiration board. We’re a couple years away from even thinking about having kids, but I love the idea of a camping-themed room for a little boy- wouldn’t it be fun? Granted, I’ve only been camping once in my life and frankly I was semi-miserable… but I just love the idea of camping, you know?

I’m loving these fun little jewelry/key racks by Steph Mantis over on Fab.com – which is a flash sale site like Gilt or Rue La La, but for cool modern housewares. Most of the stuff on Fab is still pretty pricey, but every few days there’s something cheap and fun like creatively mounted animal butts. Sale ends on these racks and necklaces in two days. Jump on it!

I’m in love with these gorgeous paint-by-numbers seascapes with famous LA surf spots screened over them. I’ve always been on the look out for west coast ocean themed PBN paintings, but only ever find New England beaches and farm houses. I’ve got one small Carmel/Monterey looking gem chilling in the fireplace, but I wish I could find a few more to round out a little collection.

Well here it is, folks. Bear Cave 2.0! Our own little bungalow on the Westside. We’re less than 3 miles from the Santa Monica pier and a quick walk to all kinds of awesome shops and restaurants. We’ve only been here 10 days but it’s definitely starting to feel like home. We even have a little backyard!! It needs some work but we’ll definitely be sharing photos soon, probably in part two of this post. In the meantime, here are some glamour shots of the living room and the kitchen…

Well, we’re just about settled in to our new place. There are still a couple boxes full of art, and unfortunately not all of it will make the cut due to the fact that almost all of the walls have giant windows (I know, bummer, right?). We’re having a little housewarming party on Saturday–which also happens to be Curt’s birthday!–so we’ll have pictures for you soon.

We love our little house. Really. In fact we only have one minor complaint. The bathroom has a very old, very heavy clawfoot tub. We’re not sure if it’s original to the home (which was built in 1924), or if the previous owner, an architect, put it in. My guess is it’s original. Anyway, it looks great. That’s not the problem. The problem is that it actually makes for a pretty miserable showering experience. The circumference of the curtain rod is a bit smaller than the tub itself, and the force of the running water causes the shower curtain to get sucked in and cling to the nearest thing (namely, us). Imagine trying to lather up when you’re wrapped in vinyl. Yeah, not fun.

For some reason, oval shower curtain rods are crazy expensive. We’re hoping a few pieces of PVC and a heavier shower curtain might solve the shrink-wrapping problem…

And if that doesn’t work, maybe we’ll paint the tub green. Granted, it wouldn’t solve the problem, but it’s so pretty!

Ever since we got the March issue of Sunset magazine, I’ve been a little obsessed with this bathroom makeover. Those gorgeous blue tiles are from Heath Ceramics. I don’t even want to imagine what it might have cost to cover entire walls with Heath-y goodness ($77 per square foot, sooo….yeah) but I know that I love it. Is it weird that I totally love that painting of the dude sitting side saddle on that donkey? Well, if you’re not as into fine art featuring beasts of burden as I am, I’m sure you can still appreciate the gorgeous stylings of the Villa Orpheus. This villa is located on the party isle of Mykonos, Greece, where picturesque white plaster buildings perch on cliff sides overlooking the blue waters of the Mediterranean. The Orpheus can accommodate ten adults and features two kitchens, a private chef, 4-5 bedroom suites, and wifi with “decent speeds” all for the price of 18,200 eros per week during peak season Aug-Sept. Gulp.
