Happy Friday! Sorry we’ve been a little M.I.A. this month. Beans can be pretty distracting and June gloom has put a damper on our adventures. Hopefully summer is in full swing where you are or maybe it’s full on winter for our readers in the Southern Hemisphere. Either way I hope this mix can add a little spring to your step this weekend! I’ve also got a mini Gil Scot-Herron shout out in the mix since this is the first mix since losing the musical legend. Tracklist and download link after the jump: Continue reading…

I hope you all are having a great weekend. The beautiful warm weather we’ve been having in LA has become to give way to May Gray, which is typically followed by June Gloom. Right when you start planning for beach filled weekends, the chilly California current off the coast puts an end to those plans. Not until that ocean current warms up, usually mid July, will we have consistent beach weather. Meh, but it’s not going to keep us from sippin’ on Margaritas by the beach in the meantime! Anyway, here’s a new mix for you to chew on. Typically, my mixes consist of nearly all new musical acquisitions, but this time it’s more a 50-50 mix of new and old. Hope you like it! Happy Friday! This is truly a Friday like no other. I’ve got a fresh mix to kick off the Easter weekend. Do you have any fun Easter plans or traditions? We do. My mom still hides Easter baskets for Jess, my sis, and me. Mind you, we’re all grown ass adults, but mom’s pretty maniacal in her basket camouflage. It still usually takes 20 minutes or so to find the basket hidden in the house I grew up in. STILL! You’d think after all these years it be easy. NOPE. She’s a sneaky mama and takes great pride in prodding her children to near meltdown as we, college educated adults, struggle to find a wicker basket filled with sugar and decades old plastic grass. Oh, the mind games she plays. So that’s what I have to look forward to this weekend. Plus we’re hitting up the SaMo flea market + brunch with friends Sunday morning before heading off to our usual Sunday service in the evening in Manhattan Beach. Fresh off our first lazy Sunday in quite some time I’ve got a new mix for all y’all. It features a lot of buzz bands from SXSW as well as some oldies but goodies. Check the tracklist after the jump: Continue reading…

Kickin’ off the workweek with a new mixtape. We hope to hear back on whether we’re going to get an appartment on the Westside in the next few days. Our fingers are getting pretty tired from being crossed for so long. The rental market is wicked competitive in this part of LA – it’s no NYC, but it’s still pretty tough. Hopefully our next mix will be a moving mix. The James Blake and the Jamie XX albums are getting serious play on my iTunes so they continue to get prominent placement in the mix. The new Destroyer album Kaputt is also rock solid with super sexy saxophones. I highly recommend you get grab all three albums if you haven’t already. Track list after the jump: Continue reading…

I’ve got another themed GBM mixtape spinoff titled “Progeny”. This LP features ten remixes of bands typically heard on GBM in recontextualized and genre bending ways. The rundown:
Cee Lo – Georgia (Band of Horses cover)
The XX – You’ve Got the Love (Theophilus London Remix) This is actully a remix of a remix. Very meta.
Toro y Moi – Fax Shadow (Shlohmo Remix)
Yeasayer – Madder Red (Hermanos Inglesos Remix)
Florence and The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms (C-Berg Remix)
Kings of Convenience – The Weight of My Words (Four Tet Remix)
Vampire Weekend – White Sky (Basement Jaxx Remix)
Carabou – Sun (Kidstreet Remix)
Local Natives – Who Knows, Who Cares (Superhumanoids Remix)
Kanye West – Power (Paper Diamond Remix)

Enjoy!
- Curt
First mixtape of the New Year!!! This ‘lil guy’s got an extra helping of synths and lo-fi distrotions and features two new cuts from Jamie xx, producer extrordinare and one third of GBM long-time fave The XX. I think this is going to be a great year for Mr xx and his wicked beat machines. Oh man! There are so many great albums out now or on the horizon. Winter is always the best time of year for indie music – that way we all marinate with the albums in the cold and are foaming at the mouth by summer when touring hits high gear. So stoked! As promised, here’s a mix featuring Christmas tunes that are a little off the beaten path. Some of the songs are brand new while others have been around for ages, but just don’t make the usual Christmas standard cut. I wasn’t able to record any of our vinyl to MP3 so Irwin the Disco Duck and Funky Christmas will have to wait until next year. But there are plenty of other goodies to be had. Enjoy and merry Christmas! Track list and download link after the jump: Continue reading…
Howdy! As promised, here’s GBM 16. Kick back and let this one wash over you on a crisp December day. This mix has everything from underground hip-hop, to lo-fi buzz rock, to west African jazz – so, you know, par for the course. We’ve got a lot of Christmas get togethers coming up plus I’ve got some gifts and whatnot to make before the big day so it may be a tad quiet around here. But who knows, whenever I usually say that I end up throwing a bunch of stuff up. As usual, cop the track list after the jump: Continue reading…

Happy Monday and Merry Christmas! Here’s the first of at least two christmas mixes I’ve pulled together to get you in the mood for Christmas. This mix is longer than the typical EPs I’ve sprinkled in over the last few months, thus the LP label. I’ll drop GBM 16 later this week as well for anyone that would rather skip out on the holiday cheer. Peep the tracklist after the jump. Continue reading…
