Portland has no shortage of awesome stores. We had so much fun exploring! A couple of the spots weren’t so keen on us taking pictures, so unfortunately this isn’t quite as much of a photo dump as we’d like it to be… but take a look anyway! Continue reading…
I’m lovin’ this powder coated steel Kreep Planter by Joe Paine. Its asymmetry is really fun. The pots come in yellow or black. Too bad they’re only sold by Dokter and Misses in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Hey-o! So you know you’re slackin’ on posting when people email you wishing you well on your imaginary vacation. So no, Jess and I haven’t left LA – yet (next week is PDX time!). We’ve just been super busy with our respective work.
I’ve finally crawled out from under a rock to show off this rad chair by the Japanese design studio Nendo. I really think their mantra of “Giving people a small ‘ ! ‘ moment.” is exemplifed in the Thin Black Lines chair. I love how from various vantage points the chair is transformed to take up distinctly different amounts of visual space.
We’ve got family comin’ in from out of town tomorrow for the weekend then off to Portland on Monday, so things will probably be pretty quiet ’round here until the end of the month. Although, I might bust out an old “Spooky Mix” made last year for all y’all next week. Stay tuned.

I’m totally digging this series by the international graphic design studio Dowling Duncan. These are the same peeps that got a lot of bloggy love recently for their US currency redesign. I love how you just get enough of each iconic San Fran landmark – super smart. Check out the rest of this series after the jump: Continue reading…

I’m really loving these images of Confetti System‘s installations. Artsy pals Nicholas Andersen and Julie Ho have been crafting these amazing confetti creations from their Manhattan studio since 2008, and they still make everything by hand! Their designs have been popping up on the blogs for quite a while, so you might have seen a couple of these, but they’re the perfect antidote to the dreary weather we’ve been having in L.A.

German industrial designer Dieter Rams’ work stands the test of time and I can’t get enough of it. His clean, minimalistic creations are a pillar of 20th-century design and are still an inspiration for many today, most notably Jonathan Ive – head designer at Apple and the man that brought us the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. Get your mind outta the gutter! I’m talking about this awesome reclaimed walnut coat rack from Canoe. I like that you can customize it by adding pieces and rearranging them however you want. Pretty neat. Via Remodelista.

I love the clean, editorial aesthetic of these posters. These four limited edition prints were produced by London based Monocle magazine, which provides its “global briefing covering international affairs, business, culture and design” to those in the know.

I love this whimsical packaging by Hasan & Partners for the Finnish bread products/bakery (?) Fazer Vilpuri. Vilpuri’s website is pretty freakin’ awesome too, but I have no idea what’s going on.

Curt and I tried to make sushi one time. Have you ever tried? It’s one of those things that takes insane amounts of effort and time, and in the end it’s kind of disappointing. It’s definitely one of those things that’s best left to the pros.
In any case, this platter is lovely, no? Made of sustainable bamboo. $80. here. I love those perfect little compartments for the sushi accoutrements! They have such a natural feel… kinda reminds me of this.

P.S. Have you visited the Grizzly Eats Chow Map lately? It’s got a couple of our fave sushi spots.
