Curt and I tried to make sushi one time. Have you ever tried? It’s one of those things that takes insane amounts of effort and time, and in the end it’s kind of disappointing. It’s definitely one of those things that’s best left to the pros.
In any case, this platter is lovely, no? Made of sustainable bamboo. $80. here. I love those perfect little compartments for the sushi accoutrements! They have such a natural feel… kinda reminds me of this.

P.S. Have you visited the Grizzly Eats Chow Map lately? It’s got a couple of our fave sushi spots.
I’m loving graphic designer Philippe Nicolas’s clean, retro aesthetic. This Parisian designer now living in Perugia, Italy also has some really great typography. Check it out after the jump:
I’m loving this the Typocalypse series by Dutch designer Lars Willem Veldkampf. Seriously it’s time for Papyrus to die. My mom even gives her 7th graders a hard time for using it in their reports. Consider yourself warned James Cameron.

A lot of times I see good design and go, “I could do that” or at least make something that resembles it. Not the case with the Corvo Chair. This beautiful handcrafted chair designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance for Bernhardt Design looks more like an extruded plastic chair than something made from linear wood planks.

“All That Glitters Ain’t Gold” is an amazing graduation poster project between Leon de Korte and Mr. Maze that “shows the dark side of the creative industry, in a playful way.”
I think it’s great that these two made these posters by actually layering all the components in space to create actual depth and then photographed the end result. Even though the end result looks like it could have been made solely in Illustrator, it’s the thought that counts. See more details after the cut: Continue reading…

Hey, hey, hey! Back from the desert. Snapped some quality pics in Joshua Tree. The J. Crew outlet was good to Jess in Cabazon. Quick shout out to the GBM Tumblr. If you’ve never strolled through our Tumblr, I highly suggest it. Get ready for some serious eye candy – no text just pics. We are constantly adding to it, so check back every now and then for more beautiful goodness.

The Deep Sea collection is a collaborative danish Kolding School of Design project between textile designer Magnhild Disington and fashion designer Emma Jorn. These conceptual “sea creatures” are all handmade and really evoke the sensation and emotion of the crushing deep. You really need to click on the image to see the detail and creativity that has gone into each of these wonderfully unique specimens.
