She Eats Bears

Ok, well I don’t think she actually eats bears (at least I hope not)… but she does cook and bake and eat such lovely, yummy-looking dishes. “She” is Marysol, and I just got lost in her sweet little food blog for an hour. Marysol tries to make each and every meal from scratch, then she photographs them beautifully and puts the recipes on her blog, which you can also read en francais! If I had the ingredients on hand, I’d definitely be making that Raspberry Rhubarb tart for breakfast tomorrow. Or maybe the lemon scones with maple sugar. Oh, food blogs… how you tease me.

Make sure you go spend a little time over at She Eats Bears. Many thanks to Corrie for sharing this with us!

cheese n’ mac

I say that because there was definitely way more cheese than mac in this creamy, gooey, artery-clogging monstrosity.

I used this recipe and while we found it quite delicious, we admittedly have unreasonably high standards for mac n’ cheese (see here and here). I think using shells instead of elbows was a good choice (cuz they make little cheese pockets), and the panko crumbs definitely added a nice crunch, but we need to play around with the cheese varieties.

Have you ever made a fancy version of mac n’ cheese? What recipe did you use? Do tell.

Weeknight Recipe: Asian Lettuce Wraps

Ok, I know you’re probably thinking:

1. Lettuce wraps? On a weeknight? No way. Too many ingredients and too much work.

2. They can’t possibly be as tasty as the ones at P.F. Chang’s or [insert your fave Chinese restaurant here].

But let me tell ya, these are deceptively easy. And once you have a few Asian staples on hand, you can throw them together in about 20 minutes. And YES, they are just as delicious as the ones you’d find in a restaurant. Maybe even more so!

Muffin Town!

That is one sexy muffin, no?

I used a hybrid of a couple different recipes so here it is if you’d like to try making your own:

Nom Nom Nom

My husband has an extraordinary love for sandwiches. In fact, after pizza and certain varieties of sweet treats, sandwiches might just be next on his list of food obsessions. So last week we snatched up Tom Colicchio’s ‘wichcraft cookbook, which includes recipes made famous at his NYC eateries. How good does this sound: beer-braised beef short ribs with pickled vegetables, aged cheddar, and horseradish?!?! And maybe a chocolate cream’wich for dessert? Well, since we’ve semi-unintentionally eaten sandwiches every weekend in a binge-eating-fest we’ve dubbed “Sandwich Saturdays”… maybe this weekend is the perfect time to crack into this drool-inducing cookbook.

Little Bites of Sunshine

I’m making Smitten Kitchen‘s lemon bars tomorrow. My mother-in-law gave me a big bag of insanely gorgeous lemons from her mom’s tree and I think this is just about the only way to do them justice. I’m drooling on my keyboard just looking at that picture! Mmmmm can’t wait….

Helvetica Cookies!

Curt’s love for the “perfect font” and my love for baking, combined in an oh-so-delicious way:

Artist Beverly Hsu made these cookie cutters just for fun, but I hope she starts selling them! Found via Goldteef.
