Hey there! Hope all you US based readers enjoyed your Memorial Day off. Sorry this little corner of the interweb has been so quiet lately. I spent most of last week in Chicago for work, but was able to have a little free time on my last day before heading out to O’Hare. It didn’t help that it was pouring and windy the whole time. I stayed at the Felix Hotel Downtown. Chicago dogs, deep dish pizza, and Rick Bayless mexican dishes were all consumed. Continue reading…

I really love this J. Crew jacket. I’ve been looking everywhere for a nice lightweight summer jacket and this one totally fits the bill… but I don’t want to pay $128 for it. Any ideas? Or J. Crew insider hookups?

I’m still on the hunt for an affordable fire pit that appeals to our modernist sensibilities, but in the meantime there are other needs to be addressed in the backyard. Particularly lighting. As of now, there is zero lighting in the backyard. I bought an industrial portable 250W halogen floodlight on Saturday in a pinch so we could play beer pong. Yes, beer pong. No we’re not in college, but the backyard layout is a stadium destined for beer pong greatness. But that’s neither here nor there. Lights. I need them.
Ever since our wedding at the Marvimon, I knew I wanted string lights criss-crossing our future backyard. I’ve been hunting around and found a few options ranging from industrial construction lighting to cheap chinese import toy lights. On saturday, I ended up ordering LED bubble lights (top right image) over the more heavy duty incandescent strings, since I’m a little hesitant to commit to the cost and labor required to mount the more industrial setup. Plus, I don’t want to be constantly replacing bulbs and my electric bill will be much kinder with the LEDs. I also found the LEDs on Target.com so returning them will be a snap if they’re a bust.
I’ll post pictures once we’ve got the backyard whipped into shape.

Through some random Craigslist stumbling, I ran across the real estate listing for this gorgeous revamped Echo Park cabin. Built in 1881, this 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath plus detached guest house is on the market for $720,000 – not cheap, but it does give me hope for finding a rad house someday since homeownership in LA has never looked very promising. I hope you all are having a great weekend. The beautiful warm weather we’ve been having in LA has become to give way to May Gray, which is typically followed by June Gloom. Right when you start planning for beach filled weekends, the chilly California current off the coast puts an end to those plans. Not until that ocean current warms up, usually mid July, will we have consistent beach weather. Meh, but it’s not going to keep us from sippin’ on Margaritas by the beach in the meantime! Anyway, here’s a new mix for you to chew on. Typically, my mixes consist of nearly all new musical acquisitions, but this time it’s more a 50-50 mix of new and old. Hope you like it! I’m intrigued by self professed “dream pop” artist Chelsea Jade aka Watercolours of New Zealand. Not a lot of info out there on her, but I’d love to hear more.

I hate to shave. I’ve got pretty sensitive skin and it will break out if I shave more often than every third day. I typically shave every 5-6 days. Ironically, my skin also gets pretty irritated when my beard gets too long. 7-8 days in and my throat kinda aches and hurts from the beard – weird I know, but that’s how it goes. So I’ve been experimenting with my shave routine since high school. This post may not be all that applicable to the ladies, but maybe something in here will make your dude want to shave more often and we all know how much you wish that would happen.
