Grizzly Eats: Simplethings Sandwich & Pie Shop
Their slogan is “Sandwich. Pie. Done.” So you know you’re in for something good. Simplethings (on 3rd and Sweetzer) opened back in November… we actually walked by the shop shortly before it opened and made a mental note to return, but kinda forgot about it until Saturday’s errands landed us in West Hollywood. Ryan Handel and Andy Paxson, along with executive chef Carrie Cusack, have taken two of our favorite things and presented them together in a way that’s so simple and perfect, we practically wept with joy. Sandwiches and Pie– what could be better?
We shared the pulled chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll. Oh Lordy, I love me a good pretzel roll. That salty chewiness was perfect with the tender, sweet barbeque chicken. It was really difficult to pick only one sandwich, but we had to save plenty of room for PIE!!
The pies are baked fresh every morning according to a weekly schedule (somehow, we’re gonna have to figure out a way to get over there on a Wednesday for their coconut pie… hmmm). We got four “cutie pies”: lemon, cherry, peanut butter cup, and salted caramel. A little pricey at $2.50 a pop, since each pie is literally two bites, but you’re paying for the popability and the opportunity to taste a variety of different flavors. The verdict? These pies are amazing. Spot-on flavors and an incredible crust. Totally worth the price, the drive, and the calories.
Angelenos: Get on it.
