Well here it is, folks. Bear Cave 2.0! Our own little bungalow on the Westside. We’re less than 3 miles from the Santa Monica pier and a quick walk to all kinds of awesome shops and restaurants. We’ve only been here 10 days but it’s definitely starting to feel like home. We even have a little backyard!! It needs some work but we’ll definitely be sharing photos soon, probably in part two of this post. In the meantime, here are some glamour shots of the living room and the kitchen…

Fresh off our first lazy Sunday in quite some time I’ve got a new mix for all y’all. It features a lot of buzz bands from SXSW as well as some oldies but goodies. Check the tracklist after the jump: Continue reading…

Well, we’re just about settled in to our new place. There are still a couple boxes full of art, and unfortunately not all of it will make the cut due to the fact that almost all of the walls have giant windows (I know, bummer, right?). We’re having a little housewarming party on Saturday–which also happens to be Curt’s birthday!–so we’ll have pictures for you soon.
We love our little house. Really. In fact we only have one minor complaint. The bathroom has a very old, very heavy clawfoot tub. We’re not sure if it’s original to the home (which was built in 1924), or if the previous owner, an architect, put it in. My guess is it’s original. Anyway, it looks great. That’s not the problem. The problem is that it actually makes for a pretty miserable showering experience. The circumference of the curtain rod is a bit smaller than the tub itself, and the force of the running water causes the shower curtain to get sucked in and cling to the nearest thing (namely, us). Imagine trying to lather up when you’re wrapped in vinyl. Yeah, not fun.
For some reason, oval shower curtain rods are crazy expensive. We’re hoping a few pieces of PVC and a heavier shower curtain might solve the shrink-wrapping problem…
And if that doesn’t work, maybe we’ll paint the tub green. Granted, it wouldn’t solve the problem, but it’s so pretty!

“After a year of scavenging for reclaimed wood and stock-piling all sorts of collectibles, Wes Bruce built forts all over San Diego County. From gulleys and sewers to galleries and museums, Wes’ experiential structures moved everyone who spent a moment or the night under their patched roof. Film-maker Bryan Bangerter followed Wes for the better half of 2010, and has edited down a forty-five minute documentary primarily focusing on Wes’ giant fort installation at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.”

This film premiered at the Museum of Photographic Art in Balboa Park, San Diego last week. Not only is the subject matter extremely fascinating, but it is impeccably shot. You can read more about Wes Bruce, his process, and his fort named Ms. Augustine Greane – yeah he names is forts and sounds like he may dabble in acid. But to each his own. I’m bummed I missed this installation last year. It stayed at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido for a little over 4 months. Now supposedly Ms. Augustine Greane has been broken down in to 20 smaller forts that were set up all over San Diego county.
Here’s little behind the scenes of the making of Ms. Augustine Greane.

Phew…the move is nearly over! Started on Friday at noon and didn’t stop until Saturday evening. Sunday was spent tying up loose ends, installing shelving, etc. More deets and pics to come. But in honor of now having an official Los Angeles address, check out the atmospheric drones of You Are Listening to Los Angeles. This website pairs random Sound Cloud selections of minimalist ambient drones and music with the LAPD dispatch radio. It’s pretty trippy hearing crackling voices and police codes called out over a haunting soundtrack. In a sense, it’s a live performance as you’re never going to hear the same thing twice since the police blotter is live and dynamic – you may be the only person to ever experience a particular moment with the dispatch and soundtrack. Which I think is pretty rad.

Oh yeah! I’m cheezing my brains out over this gorgeous William Wurster Ranch in Portola Valley, CA styled by the amazing Charles de Lisle. I love the organic materials and geometrics in subdued, but interesting colors. See more of this fantastic home after the jump: Continue reading…

Howdy! I hope you all had a great weekend, even if an hour was stolen from all of us here in the US (excluding the weirdos in AZ). BUT now it’s light when I leave work! Yay! We made a quick trip down to the OC on Saturday to visit various family members. My lil’ sis came back up with us in order to experience the throngs of humanity at the Rose Bowl Flea. I scored a nice little pottery set and some scientific glassware to be featured at the new pad. We move this weekend! We also made time for some fancy tacos at the Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa and hit up the Swedish big blue box (IKEA) this weekend. It may be a bit quiet ’round these parts since most nights this week will be spent packing. Check out a few more snaps after the jump: Continue reading…

Last week a friend asked me “what type of beers do you like?” and I drew a complete blank – total deer in the headlights. I really like beer and I had nothing, zlich, brain fart. I’m by no means a snob or an expert on beer, but when you don’t like wine and frosty brews happen to be the new “it” gastro pairing, I’ve found ways to try a lot of great beers. Unfortunately, I forget the names of most of the micro brews I come across, but here’s a few that I could remember. Maybe there’s a few up there that you haven’t tried yet. Let us know what your favorite brew and pairing is!

We’ve been eating really healthy lately, which means no sugar. And while it’s nice to fit into old jeans again, it’s not nice when bloggers post all these enticing pictures of sweet treats! Doesn’t a s’mores cookie sound like the most amazing thing you’ve never tried?!
