Ever since we got the March issue of Sunset magazine, I’ve been a little obsessed with this bathroom makeover. Those gorgeous blue tiles are from Heath Ceramics. I don’t even want to imagine what it might have cost to cover entire walls with Heath-y goodness ($77 per square foot, sooo….yeah) but I know that I love it. You can see more details from the makeover here.
How are y’all feeling about last night’s Oscar winners? We only watched bits and pieces (I heard Anne Hathaway and James Franco were pretty boring as hosts, which is unfortunate)… but I have to say I was very pleased that The King’s Speech gathered so many honors. It’s an incredible film and if you haven’t seen it yet, you really should. Colin Firth is just kind of adorable.
His wife Livia looked lovely in a Gary Harvey gown created from–get this–eleven vintage gowns from the era of The King’s Speech (1930s). It was part of her “Green Carpet Challenge” (she also wore fair-trade, eco-minded gold jewelry). I love that she chose to go against the grain. And I guess her eco-influence has had an affect on her husband… even Colin’s Tom Ford suit was made from all organic materials.
Kickin’ off the workweek with a new mixtape. We hope to hear back on whether we’re going to get an appartment on the Westside in the next few days. Our fingers are getting pretty tired from being crossed for so long. The rental market is wicked competitive in this part of LA – it’s no NYC, but it’s still pretty tough. Hopefully our next mix will be a moving mix. The James Blake and the Jamie XX albums are getting serious play on my iTunes so they continue to get prominent placement in the mix. The new Destroyer album Kaputt is also rock solid with super sexy saxophones. I highly recommend you get grab all three albums if you haven’t already. Track list after the jump: Continue reading…
I hit up MoMA during the three free hours I had in NYC on Wednesday after my presentation at AOL. I would have had these pics up sooner but JetBlue lost my bag and I didn’t get it back until late last night. Check out a few other shots of my day after the jump: Continue reading…
“New Beat” is the second video/single to come off of Chaz Bundick’s (aka Toro y Moi) sophmore release Underneath the Pine on Carpark Records. After seeing his labelmates Beach House in concert last Thursday, I’m pretty excited to see Chaz and the gang live at the Trubador on March 23rd. Sorry it already sold out.
I’ve got another themed GBM mixtape spinoff titled “Progeny”. This LP features ten remixes of bands typically heard on GBM in recontextualized and genre bending ways. The rundown:
Cee Lo – Georgia (Band of Horses cover)
The XX – You’ve Got the Love (Theophilus London Remix) This is actully a remix of a remix. Very meta.
Toro y Moi – Fax Shadow (Shlohmo Remix)
Yeasayer – Madder Red (Hermanos Inglesos Remix)
Florence and The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms (C-Berg Remix)
Kings of Convenience – The Weight of My Words (Four Tet Remix)
Vampire Weekend – White Sky (Basement Jaxx Remix)
Carabou – Sun (Kidstreet Remix)
Local Natives – Who Knows, Who Cares (Superhumanoids Remix)
Kanye West – Power (Paper Diamond Remix)
Following in the footsteps of vertical garden pioneer, Frenchman Patrick Blanc, Swedish landscape architect Michael Hellgren helping to bring nature indoors. Michael’s Stockholm based Vertical Garden Designs also has offices in Lisbon and Barcellona and is interested in global projects. There’s something powerful about these gardens – they command attention. And when paired with beautifully minimalist scandinavian design you get a wonderful ying and yang of structured form and organic chaos. Check out more amazing installations after the jump: Continue reading…
I know, I know. This post is waaay overdue. Sorry guys. February is the craziest month in my work year, and this apartment hunting process is… well, a process. But before too much time has passed, you should hear about our two Restaurant Week experiences. One great, one not great. Let’s start with the bad news first…
I’m testing whether or not my new ipad can act as a blogging tool. It’ll take some getting used to but it may work. HTML and links are the hardest part. However, the WordPress App has already crashed twice. In the mean time check out this amazing home of Brooklyn photographer Mark Borthwick. I’d kill for those windows!
Fresh off a residency at The Echo and the Detroit Bar, Foster the People are doin the band-in-a-van thing and building up from the bottom – hitting little joints all over the USofA leading up to Coachella. I’m excited to hear a full length from these Angelenos. All three songs on their self titled EP are pretty toe tappin’ strong. We’ll see if they can carve out their own niche. They are on a Major – Columbia Records – Meh. Catch ‘em while you can.
