Happy Friday everyone. Weekend forecast here in LA is supposed to be rain, so it sounds like lazy time for me and Jess. I’ve got a fun little EP for all y’all. Hindsight is a look back at some of my favorite electronic producers and DJ tunes from the 90s. This isn’t meant to be a kitschy or ironic flashback, but a collection of songs that I think still sound pretty fresh even after 10 to 15 years. Track list below: Continue reading…

Wow. This short documentary is simultaneously sobering and heartwarming. I don’t want to get into the politics and the finger pointing, but dude. Afghanistan is in a world of hurt. This beautifully shot nine minute film taps the perspective of a group of skateboarders in Kabul and serves as a glimmer of hope for a country that’s had a pretty bleak last century. Skateistan is a charity organization that is helping empower these 5-17 year old kids through skating, education, and community building.

I don’t think I could ever leave LA just because I’d miss all the tacos too much. Today we’d like to present to you: Tacos Leo! Arguably the best tacos al pastor in Los Angeles. This humble stand slinging amazing $1 tacos can be found at the 76 gas station on the corner of La Brea Ave and Venice Blvd in Mid City LA. Again, I’ve been hankering to get down to this stand for a while ever since I read about it on Street Gourmet LA back in September – and Bill hasn’t led us astray yet! Continue reading…

Hey y’all! Hope you’re ready for some soul food. I’m out in North Carolina visiting family, so my southern drawl is starting to creep out and I’m feeling like it’s high time we shared Screen Door restaurant and Pine State Biscuits with you. These were two of the biggest highlights of our PDX trip– who knew Pacific Northwesterners could do Southern so well??

Thomas Couderc and Clément Vauchez are the French creative duo behind Helmo. Their work typically explores typography and graphic arts, but I’m in love with these “Pronomade(s)”. I love the playfulness of these images. Wouldn’t be great if these giant beings gently existed in our countrysides and small villages just waiting to be noticed by those observant enough to care. Check out a few more of these silent spirits after the jump: Continue reading…
I’m lovin’ this powder coated steel Kreep Planter by Joe Paine. Its asymmetry is really fun. The pots come in yellow or black. Too bad they’re only sold by Dokter and Misses in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the heart of Orange County lurks a vicious monster prowling the southern tip of quaint Balboa Island in Newport Beach. The Wedge is a man made break created with the sole intent of breaking men’s necks. This huge wave comes in from the southern tropical Pacific, breaks against the jetty protecting the multi-million dollar homes, and doubles up on itself to create one nasty ride. It’s definitely something you should see in person. Best time to catch this beast in action is during the summer or fall or anytime there are big storms in the southern hemi.

We haven’t featured a sweet home in a while. So here ya go. This gorgeous minimalist two bedroom pine box can be found on an expanse of rugged Pacific coastline about 170 miles north of Santiago, Chile. The entire house is designed to be exposed to the sea breezes and panoramic ocean view. As with nearly all the drool-worthy homes I find, the indoor outdoor spaces of this home gently and effortlessly blend together like the gulls in flight on the cliffs out front. Peep more stellar shots after the jump: Continue reading…

Artemisia is rad. Y’all know how much we love our succulents/air plants/terrariums… and that is what they DO. A whole store filled with all the awesome stuff you could ever imagine putting in a terrarium. We were like kids in a candy store.
