Holiday Recipe: Los Rios Apple Crisp

My mom tore this recipe out of a Sunset magazine back in 1997, and she’s been making this apple crisp ever since. The recipe came from the bakery at the Los Rios Ranch apple farm in Oak Glen, CA… a tiny speck on the map about 250 miles north of San Francisco. It’s been a family favorite for years, and I bet it will become a favorite in your family, too!

Etsy Gems: Thief & Bandit

Thief & Bandit is a wonderful Etsy shop by Amie Cunningham, a woodcarver, designer, and artist by way of Canada and now living and working in Richmond, VA. Her tribal patterns look awesome against simple tees and dresses.

Turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving! Know what we’re thankful for?

You.

And turkey, and stuffing, and mashed potatoes, and gravy, and sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin pie cheesecake.

But mostly you.

Love,

Portland Whirlwind: Kenny & Zuke’s/Tasty n Sons

Why do all the stores/restaurants/bakeries in Portland have such cute/cool/clever names?! Anyone else notice that?? I love it. Anyway, we’re nearing the end of our Portland whirlwind, but we’ve still got a few more spots to share: A bright and cheerful deli servin’ up old school sammies, and a hip new restaurant on the Northeast end with delicious food and mad style. Portland Whirlwind: Shopping!

Portland has no shortage of awesome stores. We had so much fun exploring! A couple of the spots weren’t so keen on us taking pictures, so unfortunately this isn’t quite as much of a photo dump as we’d like it to be… but take a look anyway! Continue reading…

Grizzly Eats: A-Frame

And now for a restaurant so brand-spankin’ new, it doesn’t even have a website yet! A-frame is the brainchild of Roy Choi, the man behind Kogi. It just opened in Culver City about two weeks ago, and we were intrigued by the idea of eating from a creative, globally-inspired menu at communal tables in a converted IHOP. So last weekend we grabbed our favorite newly-engaged friends and experienced the deliciousness that is A-frame. WOW. Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing decor. Not to mention a dessert mix-up that resulted in 3 free desserts ending up at our table. Needless to say, that pretty much made us customers for life…

Etsy Gems: LAYERxlayer

With Christmas & Chanukah fast approaching, we’re going to try and feature more of our favorite Etsy sellers here on GBM to hopefully help you find that perfect something for that perfect someone. It’s also primarily a by-product of us spending more time hunting for gifts on Etsy too.

Today we’ve got LAYERxlayer, the New York based “collaborative Studio founded by Patrick and Leah.” These guys are bangin’ out handmade denim bags that would look equally great while you’re cruising around town, riding your bike, or gathering sticks in the woods. Ain’t nothing better than a quality stick.

“We use the highest quality materials to ensure that what we design will get better with age, as most things worth holding on to should.”
