I love me some LCD Soundsytem and the new video for their latest single “Home” off of This Is Happening is robo-tastic. Go get the album and see them live. Like right now. Or at least watch the video first, and then do that.
P.S. LCD Soundsystem is Playing at the Palms Hotel in Vegas 10/12 before coming back to LA to play at the Hollywood Bowl on 10/15. Go. See. Them!
Sweet, right? For about $30,000 you can grab one of these sexy German speedsters. They’re built on VW frames with VW parts, so no expensive upkeep, but you still get the sweet vintage-inspired fiberglass body.
Hey-oh! I’m back. Hopefully we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled postings. I come bearing gifts from Boston, well kinda. So if any of you catch yourselves in Beantown you must check out Neptune Oyster. I’d recommend stopping by for lunch since the dinner crowd can get unwieldy as this place only sits about 40-50 people. Continue reading…
It’s officially fall! The weather’s changing and even sunny L.A. is getting into it. It was downright chilly today! (Of course for me, anything below 70 degrees is cold…)
The crisp and slightly spicy fall air means I’ve got boots on the brain. Loooove me some boots. And thanks to a conveniently timed little work bonus, I might just invest in one of the lovely pairs above.
Curt’s in Boston all week for work so I’m feeling a little down. I like my alone time now and then, but a whole week of it can get a little depressing… so I’ll think about something that makes me happy! Hmmm…. **accessing happy thoughts**
Even though I’m still pretty disappointed that we don’t get to go see The xx next week, I’m still amped to go to the Local Natives show at the Music Box tonight in Hollywood. This gig is the kick-off of a swell GBM concert season with Interpol and Florence and the Machine on the horizon. Exciting!
I got an email this morning from the Plug Research crew highlighting this great performance by Bilal covering Bob Marley’s Is This Love. With an arrangement by Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Bilal definitely brings his own twist to the reggae classic, while keeping true to the flow in all the right places. You can download this cover for FREE over on Plug Research’s Bandcamp page. If you haven’t heard of Bilal, you should drop by his MySpace page to take a few of his songs for a test drive and then go get his new album Airtight’s Revenge.
“This was a very special day that sometimes feels like it can only take place in Los Angeles. The weather was perfect, the studio was reminiscent of a studio in Capitol Records during the 60s. We truly hope you will enjoy this video as much as we do. Bob Marley lives on through this Bilal rendition.”
I really dig these photographs of deconstructed appliances by artist/illustrator/photographer Brittny Badger. Check out more of her work after the jump: Continue reading…
This series, titled Everyone Forever Now, features Everynone’s (that’s the name of the group that does these films) poignant, stop motion, documentary aesthetic. These works were produced last year by the same group that bought us Words, the short film for RadioLab that swept the web last month.
These three short films each investigate the unbridled and honest experiences of people as they participate in: stoop sitting, shooting, and sun bathing. Check ‘em out.
It was getting close to 8:00 and we still hadn’t even started thinking about dinner. We walked to the grocery store (it’s basically right behind our house) and walked around somewhat aimlessly, picking up a few of the essentials as we roamed the aisles.
“Know what sounds good?” I asked, rhetorically. “…breakfast for dinner.”
And we figured if we were going to cook up some bacon and eggs anyway, we might as well go the extra step and make breakfast sandwiches. You know, because we have this thing for sandwiches. So we grabbed some maple bacon, cheddar cheese, and sourdough (already had eggs at home). Twenty minutes later we had toasty melty bacon-y goodness. It was awesome.
