Comida de Baja: Tacos Salceados

So the entire reason we went to Mexico last weekend was to stuff our faces with as much amazing food as possible in about 24 hours. Check out stop number one on our adventure after the jump:

Long story short, our friend Mynor has been touring around northern Baja with his friend Bill, who is quickly becoming the go-to guy for all things Baja eats (i.e. Andrew Zimmern’s crew contacted him to show Andrew around Baja for his TV show on the Travel Channel). Bill has also been a guest judge on Top Chef Masters on Bravo – so he’s a heavy hitter.

First stop: Tacos Salceados. After crossing the TJ/SD border we headed east into TJ past a couple of roundabouts and down a dark alley next to a strip club. Created by Sous Chef Javier Campos Gutierrez, Tacos Salceados has a kitchen that’s set up in the traditional French station style, where each chef is responsible for a single task (e.g., there’s a guy that just makes sauces, a grill man, a plating guy, etc.) So this place ain’t your usual taco stand – which was a theme for the trip.

The eight of us ordered up a dozen or so different tacos to sample: swordfish, New York steak, shrimp, pineapple, pork. Some of the tacos were quesotacos which included a fried wrap of cheese snuggling your meats. That sounds dirty, but trust me it was delicious.

This was the pineapple dessert quesotaco that was sweet and savory to the max.

Stay tuned for more Comida de Baja!
