The Black Keys and Frank

Sometimes you don’t need a huge budget or amazing editing for a sweet music video. Sometimes you just need a funkasaurus. And be sure to check out the new Black Keys album Brothers – good stuff.

Fashion for Bears

So, ummm… yeah. I’m a terrible terrible blogger when I’m on vacation. Sorry about that.

Anyways, hello from the Mile High City! I’m here visiting the fam. Been here since Sunday and I’ve mostly been helping my sister get baby Jonah’s nursery ready (pictures coming… once Curt gets here with the Nikon). It’s been kind of insane and it will probably get even crazier when more people come into town on Friday and Saturday. Curt’s been keeping GBM afloat (quite nicely, I must say) but I guess I gotta be a little bit responsible and, you know, post something.

So, Bear Fashion it is! Allie Brosh of Hyperbole and a Half (which is hilarious; add it to your Reader NOW) has a weekly guest post over on The Gloss and this week’s musings were dedicated to helping grizzly bears avoid a visit from the fashion police. Bears who’ve packed on the pounds can benefit from opting for vertical stripes and avoiding thick fabrics like wool. Oh and “pale sage is a great color because it is complemented by the rich cranberry of salmon blood.” I don’t think I could have said it any better myself.

You can read the whole guest post here, and make sure you pay a visit to Hyperbole and a Half, too! Just read about the Sneaky Hate Spiral and you’ll be hooked. Thank you (again) to Corrie for sharing. She really gets our style. Like we were related or something.

Required Listening

Here are four albums you need to own. Each of these artists has a very signature sound that I’d venture to say no one else is making right now. These albums have either just been released or will be coming out very soon. Continue reading…

She Eats Bears

Ok, well I don’t think she actually eats bears (at least I hope not)… but she does cook and bake and eat such lovely, yummy-looking dishes. “She” is Marysol, and I just got lost in her sweet little food blog for an hour. Marysol tries to make each and every meal from scratch, then she photographs them beautifully and puts the recipes on her blog, which you can also read en francais! If I had the ingredients on hand, I’d definitely be making that Raspberry Rhubarb tart for breakfast tomorrow. Or maybe the lemon scones with maple sugar. Oh, food blogs… how you tease me.

Make sure you go spend a little time over at She Eats Bears. Many thanks to Corrie for sharing this with us!

Write The Future

With the World Cup less than a month away, the global hype is starting to peak. Check out this amazing commercial by Nike Football featuring all the big dogs playing on their national teams: Drogba, Rooney, Ribery, Fabregas, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo. If you’ve never watched a soccer match before, I suggest you tune in this Saturday for the Champions League Final – it’s pretty much the Superbowl for club soccer if only the NFL were an international affair and had a ton more money to pay for players (soccer players make bank, it’s crazy). So it’s a pretty big deal. Bayern Munich takes on Internazionale de Milan in Madrid – kick-off on the West Coast is 11:45am. Apprently it’s even going to be shown on FOX so everyone will get the game. Brunch and soccer. How can you pass that up?

Or instead of watching the game you can listen to Gilles Peterson’s World Cup Special mix for BBC Radio 1 where he has masterfully assembled 40 songs representing the 40 nations invited to the World Cup. Download the show here; it’s quite a treat.
