Max Wanger‘s photography just gets me every time. It is at once old-fashioned and cutting-edge, romantic and real. So it’s no surprise that the West Hollywood apartment he shares with his fiancée Margaux would just as easily sweep me off my feet.
Clearly, I’m a sucker for bunting flags and woodland creatures. But you really should go and take a look at the rest of the Sneak Peek on Design*Sponge… I promise, the entire place is just lovely.

“Timeless: The Composer/Arranger Series is the name of a concert series that was created in homage to the composer/arrangers who have influenced hip-hop in the most literal and profound ways. Timeless was conceived by production house Mochilla in Los Angeles during February and March 2009 and included the performances of over 150 musicians in front of ecstatic sold out crowds. These three historic events were recorded and filmed in exacting detail with Mochilla’s unmistakable style.”
The video above is a sample from the amazing Timeless 2 series which celebrated the work of hip-hop producer J Dilla. Dilla, who unfortunately is receiving more respect and notoriety postmortem, was a seminal hip-hop producer in the 1990s who died of a rare blood disease in 2006. The video of this 60 piece orchestra performing hip hop beats is just great! It’s truly amazing how technology makes it possible for one man to produce the same music as a 60 piece band.

So last night the Mr. and I had the incredible privilege of catching a secret show at Silver Lake’s Bootleg Theater. It was announced on KCRW a little after 10 AM yesterday, and the tickets were sold out by 10:30… but not before we snatched up a pair!
Broken Bells = famed super-producer Danger Mouse + James Mercer of The Shins. Let me tell ya, it’s the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I’ve always marveled at Mercer’s inspired lyrics, but once they’re set against the backdrop of Danger Mouse’s prolific beats, the result is pure musical awesomesauce. The album drops March 9… while you’re eagerly awaiting its release, check out this video of their first single, “The High Road”:

Well Punxsutawney Phil may be predicting extra winter for the rest of the country, but Speedy De Tortuga (our no longer hibernating tortoise) begs to differ for SoCal. 80′s last weekend. Rain and sun this weekend. Spring is a-comin’. Woo! Cruised over to Plant Depot today for some house plants for the Woolly Pocket (stay tuned on that). The Nikon came along for the ride and you get to reap the benefits. I feel sorry for all of you with snow up to your hiney.
Made the monthly pilgrimage to the big blue box – IKEA. I’ve been eying some of their houseplants for for quite some time and Monday was the day we finally pulled the trigger. It was a little bit of a struggle getting the Ficus Lyrata home with four people in the car – which is how it ended up with the name “Frisky.”

Curt’s love for the “perfect font” and my love for baking, combined in an oh-so-delicious way:
Artist Beverly Hsu made these cookie cutters just for fun, but I hope she starts selling them! Found via Goldteef.

I forget how I stumbled across the work of Relleno de Mono, but these silly monsters imposed into old photographs are just hilarious.

USA! USA! USA!
Today was a good day for the good ‘ol Team USofA. Most of all, SoCal native and X-games superstar Shaun White repeated his golden Torino performance. In my eyes White is a freak in snowboarding like Michael Phelps is in swimming. In every competition, it’s his to lose. No one can beat Shaun, but Shaun for now. Congrats to Shaun and bronze medalist teammate Scotty Lago!
Plus you gotta love the Burton+Levis uni’s for Team USA. The Burton Yankee pinstripes were pretty sweet from Torino, but a Farmer Brown snowboard team on the podium is awesome.

Want a masterfully shot photo of something cool on a deep black backdrop? Parisian shutterbug Guido Mocafico is your man! Guido works regularly for international magazines such as Numèro, Vogue, V Mag, The Face, Harper’s Bazaar, and Wallpaper. He also shoots for major brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Clinique, Dior, Bvlgari, and Hermës – so he’s pretty stacked. His personal works are often “explorations of the creation of an unparalleled artist” and he juxtaposes visually stunning execution with brooding subject matter.
